Let’s Be Honest

I hit you with a strong dose of vulnerability and let you wash it down with a dick joke
So you can laugh off the bitter taste in your mouth and ignore the discomfort bubbling up in your chest

You say all the right things and I bet you even mean most of them
But I can’t help the way I leave every conversation feeling like I matter even less

If it were up to you you’d chop me up into tiny little pieces
Save the parts you deem okay and leave the rest out for the flies
Destroy any subtle hint of raw emotion
Pull out my chair for a seat at the table only if I smile

I can tell you need to be liked because hey, I need it too.
But only one of us is honest, and the other one is you.
