Glancing Back

By Keerthi

I walked past the windows,
listening to my soft footsteps.
Stepping on to the front floor,
I saw my grandma, gaping at the night sky.
An airplane, very much like a night bird,
flew above, flickering its light.
She pointed her thin finger, at the dashing nightship.
A smile grew broadly over her lips,
a smile of an enthusiastic young one.
I stood there, bearing at my soul’s friend.
But in the midst of pitch darkness too,
I could see her eyes,
ruminating a lost childhood.
