Her Secret Life

She’s got a painful secret, secrets by the dozen
I wish that I could tell her, that anger’s hatred’s cousin

She doesn’t have to hear that, you can’t put her on trial
She doesn’t have to see it, it won’t shine through denial

Once she was happy, a smile her constant guest
She says I took it all, I never gave my best

The saddest moment ever, was the one I realized
We’d never make it to our dreams, the life we both had prized

What’s left is just pretending, that things are really fine,
While everything’s decaying, our enemy is time

I’ve been to here before, and seen it all destroyed
Selfish turns to bitter, and love is unemployed

She says that things are different, when she is with her friends
She never feels the anger, that’s gonna make us end

I must be awfully guilty, it must be all my fault
‘Cause everything I say to her, just fills the wound with salt

So what is left to say? It’s hard to say goodbye
We let it get so bad, there’s not a tear to cry

Two feelings still persist, the loss that crushes me,
The other one I can’t resist, relief from wrath makes free

I never will return, to traps I once escaped
The screaming and the hatred, that left me so mis-shaped

There’s not a love that’s worth it, love never hurts like this
It soothes and wraps in comfort, and tickles with a kiss

Is there a chance for better? A chance to reconcile?
My hope is dead and drowning, and love has been defiled

She sees it through her eyes of blind, and maybe I’m the same
Somewhere we both lost touch with kind, and filled our life with pain

The worst part is the love remains, and tears me into two
Still sure it could be better, yet not knowing what to do

But damage has a zenith, a point of no return
I tried and tried to tell her, but couldn’t make her learn

So I’ll accept the blame, it matters not to me
No price that I could pay, exceeds this painful fee

What’s left is just to run, from hatred, pain and strife
How long to pay the debt, and escape her secret life?
