I.
How can he write of sunny, joyful times?
When sadness weighs heavily on his heart
How can he think of uplifting rhymes?
When they’re several thousand miles apart
His words are flat; and his lines are barren
All verses he writes are cold and lifeless
His only thoughts are of the searing pain
In his heart; for his spirit’s in distress
Regrettably, his life has twists and turns
And many events he didn’t foresee
He was hopeful! But now the feeling burns
His plans for a life together won’t be
Now he realizes he’ll be alone
Confronting the future and the unknown!
II.
But in the abyss of his existence
Fate smiled and granted him another chance
To see the world through a rose-tinted lens
To shout for joy, feel the music and dance
She walked into his life uninvited
His gloom and unhappiness she erased
His heart’s on fire, his spirit uplifted
Forgotten! the past’s bitter aftertaste
Hopeful again, thrilled about the future
Hopelessly in love and loved in return
With her at his side, life will be smoother
To be happy again, he can relearn
The future beckons, he won’t be alone
Side by side they’ll walk towards the unknown!

Nine years ago, I wrote the first sonnet above. I never posted it because I felt it was incomplete. Two days ago I decided to write a second sonnet so I can achieve closure. I hope it did.
