Placebo Smile

For this persistent dejected-ness I feel I do not place fault or blame
on any others, for it is only natural to see me,
or more so the apathetic and infantile being that I became,
as a creature emasculated by the narcissistic ambience I can’t help but be.

As the now preeminent being that controls me
slowly transforms my existence into an overvalued conglomeration of dissatisfaction,
the person that people would distinguish as being “me”
is slowly descending into a pit of self-commiseration

The more I am forced to form that placebo smile,
there is exponentially less truth behind it
and the ominous presentiment I’ve had for a long while,
has accumulated into this injurious quandary full of resentment
