Shorn and Bare
Sheep are still sheep when shorn of their wool
though it was a part of them before but no more
The removal of the wool did not destroy the animal
though it altered its look and its warmth
When shorn of the covering seemingly protecting
me, what lays beneath that coverlet
Bare, without the comfort of what covered
me, what lays underneath that comforter
Does the sheep’s shearing
take away a thing it needs
or does the season to be covered
end and a reason to be bare emerge?
