Rising Phoenix

Footprints

If not for the days gone by
I’d sit a while to rest my feet
I’d sit and watch the sun come up
and pretend that it had been a dream

But so fortunate I am not
Memories can’t be forgot
I’d like to see where the footprints go
When the tide comes in are they washed away?

My body weary, my mind too full
It feels this story has no end

I wish guilt were footprints
And the tide the erasure
Tides do not come when I need them to
They come when the footprints are too far away.

I’d pretend that it had been a dream
I’d sit and watch the sun come up
I’d sit a while to rest my feet
If not for the days gone by.
