Perfect

True love is not about finding the perfect fairytale dream, but being with a person who is seen as perfect through heartache and sadness, the person who will always be there no matter the cost. Every problem that needs to be faced they are always on standby. Love sometimes just happens. Falling is the easy part, it’s the rest that follows to prove if it is true or not. It’s said that love is about being happy all the time and always an exciting journey, but is that true? Love isn’t always about being happy and jumping off cliffs everyday but knowing when things are rough that person shows he cares.

“It seems that all throughout childhood, we are taught to look for a happily ever after.” The young girl believed that was true until she met the love of her life. She was just an ordinary girl everyone thought, the crazy horse girl everyone called her. Every night she went to bed dreaming of her perfect life with her perfect husband, perfect house, and perfect family. It was one day the sixteen year olds life changed forever. It was the Fourth of July, beautiful fireworks, perfect weather, and spent it with her favorite people. Right after the fireworks were over he kissed her like she never had been kissed before. Her head started spinning and she knew instantly it was love. At the time it was like a fairytale she imagined her life as she dreamed. The more their relationship grew the next few months she started thinking it was better than a fairytale and realized it was more it was reality.  “I knew the romantic ideas of Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty, but it was the love story of Laura Ingalls and Almanzo Wilder that I returned to again and again.” As the reality started to sink in she soon realized that love was much harder than it was in the stories. Love has to be worked for especially if it’s true. She started thinking about how she would show him how much she cares and how she would go the furthest mile to get where they need to be to keep the relationship alive. After the first fight they had she could tell she could never lose him. He was her life and she was going to do anything she could to keep him as her own. The fairytale definition of love turned out to be a lot easier in the movies then in reality. She learned not to expect to find a perfect man, but to find a man that she can look past of all of his faults and still would love him for himself not for the way he acts, dresses, or how popular he is.

“So, in the small silence of our predicable, boring day, I chose him, and I chose love, all over again.” The next year went by and she still loved him more than ever. Day’s seemed to be slow and nothing much went on. Instead of going on dates they would just go somewhere, sit and talk. It wasn’t the most exciting, but it didn’t matter to her, she loved every second she was ever with him. Every night they fought he would never let her go to bed without things being better. He never let her leave sad and always told her he loved her. It started to be a routine when they talked on the phone at night, ten o’clock until eleven thirty and only hung out when she babysat, but it was just enough to keep pushing. The love never died. It got rough there for a while she always started a fight not meaning too. They would go to bed late at night. She would be crying but he usually always called back. It got really hard for them. They both thought about giving up but in the end of the day she chose him and he chose her. They realized they would have a future together after high school and that was their motivation. Throughout everything, they went on and loved each other and continued to fight through all their problems. She still saw him the way she looked at him the night they first kissed. That, she knew would never change. She shows her love for him not as a fairytale but a routine. She chose this love it wasn’t just given and that is something special.
The past two years have been a struggle, but she couldn’t ask for a better life without him. She realized that her life wasn’t a Cinderella story but much better than that. There were no glass slippers. There were fairytale moments like the time he chased her going down the highway at one hundred and twenty miles per hour to tell her he loved her after a fight, but no prince charming relates to the way she sees him. She sees him as someone better, strong, and realistic. “So I think that a good frog, an amazing frog, the best frog you can find is what we’re really looking for in this world.” The young girl found her frog and he is better than any prince charming.

The now eighteen year old girl doesn’t believe in fairytales anymore. There are fairytale moments she says but life will never be a complete fairytale. It’s better finding a good frog than a prince charming, and even through all the heartbreak and problems it’s better than any fairytale dream. The girl found the love of her life and he may not be perfect, but to her he is the best thing in the world. Nothing will ever amount to the way she feels about him. True love isn’t about finding the perfect prince charming or fairytale dream, but spending life with the girl who makes him feel perfect and the way he makes her feel perfect. All that is needed is time, love, trust, and a heart to stay with your good frog.
