John Trainor

Dad

How I hope they remember me

Before I could even speak or know who I was, he loved me!
He told me what I should believe.
He told me what I should achieve.
He told me how proud he was of me.
He told me when I was a disappointment.
He told me when what he told me had been wrong, eventually.
He told me I should be kind.
He told me to forgive myself.
He told me to laugh often and in those moments when you can’t generate a smile, to remember laughter is just around the corner.
He told me if it seems too good to be true, it usually is!
He told me I am free to do whatever I want but to never forget there will be consequences.
He told me to say what I want but to remember in some places it is  better to stay silent.
He told me grief is the price you pay for love.
He told me I was the best of him!
He made me believe he was right!

We cremated my brother in law and I watched his children grieving with tears in their eyes and mine.
