Summer Afternoon

By noon, it surpassed a hundred
In degrees Fahrenheit that is
So right now, we’ll wallow in bed
We’ve done all our exercises

By three o’clock, gray clouds rolled in
Cracks of lightning then loud thunder
Darkness and gloom then blinding rain
The racket woke us from slumber

Twilight, rain stopped and clouds vanished
But streets remained flooded for hours
Still we dined out, we were famished
Stars shone up high after the show’rs!
