Disconnect

Enormous blue eyes
Fill with tears
Almost 12
But still a baby
Needing reassurance
From her mom
The comfort of home
A soft couch, blanket and pillow
A warm dog on her feet.
Leaves swirl and scatter
Outside the window
A chicken soup simmers
Turn off the television, ipad and phone.
Close your eyes
And let your body feel
The quiet
The peace
The beauty
Of just you.
Listen to your own heart beat
The caged birds chirping
The crisp leaves churning
In ocean waves across the lawn
How long can you stand it?
The disconnect
From those consuming addictions
To be seen
To be noticed
To be “liked”
How long can you look inside?
