Music

I’m like one of those people
Who says that music is my soul
Except it’s not
Because music is meaningful
And music drowns out noise
But my soul is a racket
Like the pins and needles
On a tv without channels
Constantly disrupting peace
And causing turmoil.
My soul is not the good
That helps me focus
When I read
Nor is it the tune
That picks me up
When I am down.
My soul is a distraction
Dragging me down
Worse than gravity
And if my life were an ocean
My soul would be the anchor
Forcing me to drown,
And music would be the savior
That drags me to the shore
And pumps the air back
Into my lifeless body.
Music is not my soul
Because my soul
I could get rid of
But my music
Has to stay.
