permanency is a fantasy

yet i cling to it desperately

i find myself tracing trails in the forest
with each step
the sun paints a new pattern
among my skin
trying so desperately to
to break through the thick canopy
that lies above me
desperate to feel
the rays of light
waltz across my face
and into my soul
i climb the tallest
candelabra tree i can find
in hopes that if i keep climbing
just maybe
the sun could find me too.
as i get to the top
the sun slowly starts to set
the air begins to bite
and the leaves begin to catch in the breeze
they slowly become one with the earth
losing hold of their branches
as the snowflakes fall like glitter
bringing the season down with them
