Destruction vs. Happiness

May this poem bring hope to all who read it.

I am the storm that ruined your home.
I’ll leave you with nothing, then leave you alone.
I am the tidal wave that drowned all your friends.
Left a path of destruction that no one can mend.
I am the lightening that struck down the plane.
I took the family you won’t see again.
I am the black ice your car drove across.
I sat and watched as your life you lost.
I am all things evil, I am the obstruction
To wonderful things… I am destruction.

I am the butterfly that follows you round,
I’m there to lift your eyes off the ground.
I am the rainbow that brightens your day,
I’m there to stop you from feeling so grey.
I am the bright moon that shines every night,
I’m there to show you there’s always some light.
I am the bluebell that flowers in spring,
I’m there to bring hope, and hope I will bring.
I’m happiness, I’m everywhere, just open your mind,
Use it to look for me, and me you shall find!

(2014)

The first half of the poem was written by my own inner child at a time when I could not connect with her and felt no compassion for her.

After connecting with my inner child, I decided to challenge this view and create a more positive poem, which provides some insight into how my perspective of myself has changed since making connections.
